Mumbai CNG crisis: Time is of the essence in the dream city of Mumbai. But the CNG crisis had shaken the entire city. After two days of massive disruption in the supply of CNG in Mumbai, relief was finally provided on Tuesday.
Long queues were seen for the second consecutive day on Tuesday at CNG pumps in the metropolis and surrounding areas due to disruption in supply due to damage to a major CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) pipeline in Mumbai.
Long queues were seen since morning at most of the CNG pumps including those operated by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL). The number of black-yellow taxis and autorickshaws was high among them.
There was a breakdown on Sunday
CNG supplies in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region were disrupted on Monday, November 17, after a major gas pipeline was damaged.
Operations at all 486 CNG refueling stations in the MMR suddenly came to a halt on Sunday afternoon after the main gas pipeline at Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers' Chembur plant was damaged, disrupting supplies to Mahanagar Gas Limited's (MGL) Wadala station.
Autos, taxis, buses, and aggregator cabs like Uber and Ola, along with over 500,000 private cars running on CNG, were affected.
The glitch led to long queues and hours-long waits at CNG pumps across the city. Many drivers of black and yellow taxis and autorickshaws reported waiting three to four hours, compared to the usual 15 to 30 minutes.
Which places were most affected?
MGL said the crisis had disrupted supplies to CNG stations in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, including pumps servicing public transport undertakings.
