CAT 2025: How many types of MBAs are there? Find out which MBA courses require a CAT score for admission

The admit card for the CAT 2025 exam has been released today, November 12th. Candidates appearing for the exam can download it by visiting the official website, iimcat.ac.in, and entering their registration number and date of birth. 

The exam will be conducted by IIM Kozhikode on November 30th at various centers across the country. This entrance exam provides admission to management courses at IIMs across the country. Let's explore the different types of MBAs and which MBAs require a CAT score for admission.

Students who graduate from the intermediate commerce stream often pursue management courses after completing their B.Com, with MBA being a prominent one.

How many types of MBA are there?

There are six types of MBA: Full-time MBA (2 years), Part-time MBA (2 to 3 years), Executive MBA (18 months), Distance MBA, Online MBA, Dual Specialization MBA.

Which MBA requires CAT score for admission?

A CAT score is mandatory for admission to the two-year, regular, full-time MBA program. Admission to the full-time MBA program at IIMs is not possible without a CAT score. 

There are a total of 21 IIMs in the country that accept CAT scores for MBA admissions. Furthermore, admission to IIT MBA programs is also based on CAT scores.

In which branches of MBA does CAT score provide admission?

Admission to IIMs' MBA Marketing, Finance MBA, HR MBA, Operations MBA, IT MBA, and International Business MBA programs is based on CAT scores. CAT scores are also accepted for admission to PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) courses.
