A Fortuner worth ₹1.49 crore, a Swift worth ₹4.4 million! Car prices skyrocket in Pakistan

Globally, the Swift is also sold by Suzuki in Pakistan. The previous-generation Swift hatchback costs PKR 44.60 lakh in the neighboring country. The Fortuner's base model will set you back PKR 1.49 crore, while the same car's ex-showroom price in India starts at PKR 33.64 lakh.

 

The automobile sector plays a vital role in any country as it contributes the most to the national economy. According to government data, the auto sector contributes 7.1 percent to India's national GDP, generating millions of jobs every year. 

To boost new car sales, the government recently implemented GST 2.0, under which vehicles are now taxed at a uniform rate of 18 percent or 40 percent, increasing the affordability of economy cars and attracting more families to purchase four-wheelers. Today, the cheapest car in the country has a starting price of Rs 3.50 lakh ex-showroom, which is the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.

Prices of best-selling cars in India

However, car buyers in neighboring Pakistan are not as fortunate in terms of purchase cost and available options. Cars that typically cost less than ₹10 lakh in India can be found in the neighboring country for over ₹40 lakh (Pakistani Rupees). 

This is due to several reasons, including high taxes, almost zero local production, inflation, and supply chain issues. Whereas, the best-selling WagonR in India costs ₹32 lakh in Pakistan , while the price of the WagonR in India is ₹4.98 lakh.

Honda City Gen 4 – PKR 47.37 lakh

The previous generation of the popular City sedan is still available in Honda showrooms in Pakistan. It comes in two engine options and three variants, and its starting price is 47.37 lakh Pakistani rupees (approximately ₹14.75 lakh) for the base trim with the 1.2-liter petrol engine and a manual gearbox. The last recorded price of the same car in India was ₹14.31 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-end ZX CVT automatic variant.

Toyota Fortuner – PKR 1.49 Crore

Fortuner fans across the country often criticize it as an expensive product. However, the Pakistani price of this SUV may surprise you. The base Fortuner model will cost you 1.49 crore Pakistani rupees, while the same car's starting ex-showroom price in India is 33.64 lakh rupees.

Suzuki Swift Gen 3 – PKR 44.60 lakh

The Swift, which is sold globally by Suzuki, is also sold in Pakistan. The previous-generation Swift hatchback is priced at 44.60 lakh Pakistani rupees (approximately ₹13.89 lakh) in the neighboring country. Meanwhile, the last starting price of the same car under Maruti Suzuki in India was ₹5.37 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota Hilux (Revo) – PKR 1.23 Crore

Like the Fortuner, the Hilux is another expensive lifestyle SUV sold in India. The same car is also sold in Pakistan as the Revo, but the price differs significantly. 

The Toyota Revo (Hilux) starts at 12.3 million Pakistani rupees (approximately ₹38.31 lakh) in Pakistan. Meanwhile, the Hilux starts at ₹28.02 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
