Bank Holiday List in January 2026: Not 5, 10, or 15 days, banks will be closed for this many days in January; get your work done soon

In January 2026, branches of both public and private sector banks will be closed for several days due to various occasions and festivals such as New Year, Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, Bihu, etc. In addition, there are four Sundays, along with the second and fourth Saturdays, when banks will be closed.

The year 2026 is about to begin. In such a situation, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the bank holiday calendar for 2026. According to the RBI's holiday list for 2026, banks will be closed for 16 days in January, not just 5, 10, or 15. 

However, these are for different states. Banks will not be closed for 16 days simultaneously across the country. These include 6 holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays and 4 Sundays. 

Additionally, 10 holidays are national and state holidays. Therefore, the RBI and banks are advising customers that if they have any banking related work to do in the month of January, they must check the bank holiday list for their city before doing so.

Bank Holidays in January 2026

In January 2026, branches of public and private sector banks will be closed for several days due to various occasions and festivals, such as New Year, Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, Bihu, Makar Sankranti, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti, Republic Day, etc. 

In some states, banks will be closed for two to three consecutive days. Additionally, there are four Sundays, along with the second and fourth Saturdays, when banks will be closed simultaneously across the country.

  1. January 1: On January 1, 2026, bank branches in Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata and Shillong will remain closed on the occasion of New Year's Day/Gaan-Ngai.
  2. January 2: On January 2, 2026, bank branches in Aizawl, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed on the occasion of New Year Jayanti.
  3. January 3: On January 3, 2026, bank branches in Lucknow will remain closed on the occasion of Hazrat Ali's birthday.
  4. January 4: On Sunday, all bank branches across the country will remain closed.
  5. January 10: On the occasion of second Saturday, branches of all banks across the country will remain closed.
  6. January 11: On Sunday, all bank branches across the country will remain closed.
  7. January 12: On January 12, 2026, bank branches in Kolkata will remain closed on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda's birthday.
  8. January 14: Bank branches in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati and Itanagar will remain closed on the occasion of Makar Sankranti/Magh Bihu on 2026.
  9. January 15: Bank branches in Bengaluru, Chennai, Gangtok, Hyderabad and Vijayawada will remain closed on the occasion of Uttarayan Punyakaal/Pongal/Maghe Sankranti/Makar Sankranti on January 15, 2026.
  10. January 16: Bank branches in Chennai will remain closed on the occasion of Thiruvalluvar Day on 2026.
  11. January 17: Bank branches in Chennai will remain closed on the occasion of Uzhavar Thirunal on 2026.
  12. January 18: On Sunday, all bank branches across the country will remain closed.
  13. January 23: Bank branches in Agartala, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata will remain closed on January 23, 2026 on the occasion of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birthday/Saraswati Puja (Shri Panchami)/Veer Surendrasai Jayanti/Basant Panchami.
  14. January 24: On the occasion of fourth Saturday, branches of all banks across the country will remain closed.
  15. January 25: On Sunday, all bank branches across the country will remain closed.
  16. January 26: On January 26, 2026, bank branches will remain closed in Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada.
