Delhi Blast: Used cars, check these details before buying an old car
The Delhi bombings shocked everyone because the cars used in the blasts were second-hand! Now, the question arises: do you also perform all the necessary inspections when buying a used car? A small oversight can lead to significant trouble. Learn which details are crucial to check, or you might regret it.
The recent Delhi bombings have shocked the public. Investigations have revealed that the cars used in the blasts were old or second-hand, with ownership transfers that hadn't been properly processed. This incident has once again raised the question: do we truly conduct the necessary inspections when buying or selling used cars?
Check Car RC, Insurance, PUCC, NOC
Millions of used cars are bought and sold every month in India, but most people consider document verification a mere formality. Often, used vehicles end up in the wrong hands, leaving the original owner in trouble for no fault of their own.
This is precisely what happened in cases like the Delhi bombings—the car was in the previous owner's name, leading investigating agencies to consider him the primary suspect.
So, if you're considering buying a used car, be careful! Be sure to check the car's RC, insurance, PUCC, NOC, and ownership transfer status. Even a small negligence could lead to significant legal trouble in the future.
You may face fines or legal problems.
Buying and selling used cars has become commonplace these days . However, the most crucial step in this process is transferring ownership. While many people complete the documentation, others neglect this step.
However, keep in mind that this is a task that should never be postponed, as failing to transfer ownership could result in fines or legal complications in the future.
After the sale or purchase of a used car, both the seller and the buyer must jointly complete the ownership transfer process. This requires filling out and submitting certain forms and documents prescribed by the RTO.
Fill out the required form
For ownership transfer, Form 29 and Form 30 must be filed. If the vehicle is being transferred to another state, Form 28 (NOC), issued by the old RTO, will be required. If the car was under a loan, Form 35 and an NOC from the bank will also be required to prove that the loan has been repaid.
Prepare all the necessary documents
The seller must submit the vehicle's original RC, valid insurance, and PUCC. The buyer must provide proof of identity and address, such as an Aadhaar card or voter ID.
Both parties must submit all documents, along with passport-size photographs, to the RTO along with the forms. Some states also require a PAN card or Form 60/61 and a traffic police clearance report.
Submit the documents at the RTO
All documents and forms must be submitted to the buyer's new RTO office. You can initiate this process online through the Parivahan.gov.in website, but signed hard copies must be submitted offline to the RTO.
Pay fees and taxes
The new owner of the car must pay the transfer fee, pending taxes, and any old challans. Failure to do so may result in the RTO blocking the transfer of ownership.
Get a new RC
After verification of all documents, the RTO issues a new registration certificate (RC) in the name of the new owner. This entire process is usually completed within a few weeks.
