According to Google Play report, District: Movies Events Dining has been declared India's Best App of 2025. This app owned by Zomato brings movie tickets, event booking and dining options on a single platform.
The company says that the biggest feature of the app is that it is designed as per the tastes and needs of Indian users. Apart from this, Toonsutra got the award for Best Hidden Gem and Daily Planner got the award for Best Everyday Essential App. According to Google, Indian users are rapidly adopting apps with AI integration.
CookieRun India becomes Best Game of 2025
In the Gaming category, CookieRun India won the title of Best Game. This game has been designed for Indian players with local culture and characters in mind. CookieRun India was also chosen as the Best Pick Up and Play Game.
This year, the Best Indie Game award went to Kamala, a horror survival game. Real Cricket Swipe was awarded Best Made in India Game, and Disney Speedstorm was honored as Best Multi-Device Game.
The most trending apps of 2025 and the growing influence of AI
Google Play reported that 69% of people in India interact with AI for the first time through an app, which shows how popular AI-based apps are becoming in India. Among trending categories, Instamart topped the shopping section, while Seekho:
Short Learning Videos led the education category and Adobe Firefly: AI Generator led the art and design category. The success of these apps demonstrates the rapid growth of the content, e-commerce, and edtech sectors in India.
Other winners from the gaming industry and Google's financial contribution
Several global games were also honored at the Google Play Awards 2025, including Price of Persia: Lost Crown (Best Story) and Free Fire Max (Best Ongoing).
In the PC gaming category, Whiteout Survival was named Best for Google Play Games on PC. Google also stated that the Play Store and Android ecosystem have created approximately 3.5 million jobs in India and contributed over ₹4 lakh crore to the economy, strengthening the country's digital ecosystem.
