Will PM Kisan's money double? The government responded in Parliament
The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi is a central government scheme launched in February 2019. Its purpose is to provide financial assistance of ₹6,000 per year to farmers who own agricultural land.
A major question related to the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is being widely discussed among farmers. Is the government planning to increase the annual amount of this scheme from ₹6,000 to ₹12,000?
In December 2024, a parliamentary standing committee recommended that farmers be given ₹12,000 annually, given the current economic situation. On December 12, 2025, Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam sought a response from the government on this issue.
On this question, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ramnath Thakur, clearly stated that the government is not considering any such proposal. This means there are currently no plans to double the PM Kisan amount. This has put an end to the discussions among farmers.
Is Farmer ID mandatory or not?
MP Samirul Islam asked another important question: Is registration of a Kisan ID mandatory to receive PM Kisan installments? In response, Minister of State Ramnath Thakur stated that a Kisan ID is only required for new registrations, and that too in the 14 states where the work of preparing the farmer registry has already begun.
In states where this process has not yet begun, farmers can register to benefit from the scheme even without a Kisan ID. The minister also provided data on farmers from states that have not yet registered for a Kisan ID.
What is PM Kisan Yojana and who can avail the benefits?
