These symptoms seen in newborns during winters are a sign of infection, do not ignore them

Winter is a season when newborns are susceptible to infections. Parents may not recognize the early symptoms. We spoke with a doctor to find out more about this.

New born babies

Newborns require special care for approximately one month after birth. During this time, any infection can spread rapidly. In many cases, parents may not notice the symptoms.

If treatment is not provided, this can prove dangerous. In some cases, parents may recognize the symptoms but dismiss them as a cough or cold.

In such a situation, doctors have told about those symptoms which are indicative of infection and disease in newborn babies.

What are the signs of infection in children?

Dr. Vipinchandra Upadhyay, head of the pediatric department at Ghaziabad's district hospital, explains that newborns require careful care after birth. Even minor problems can be serious.

Therefore, it's important to pay attention to certain symptoms. If a newborn's temperature is over 100 degrees, don't ignore it. This is identified by the baby's hands, feet, head, and abdomen being hot. In this situation, the fever is checked by placing a thermometer under the baby's armpit. If the temperature is over 100 degrees, consult a doctor.

Not drinking milk

If a newborn baby isn't nursing, it's a serious sign. Babies typically feed every few hours. While it's a different matter when they're asleep, they'll feed when they're awake.

If the baby isn't doing this and is lethargic, it could also indicate an infection. Furthermore, if the baby is crying constantly, this shouldn't be ignored.

Frequent vomiting and diarrhea is also a sign of infection in the child.

Why does a child get an infection?

  1. exposure to bacteria or viruses
  2. Touching the baby with dirty hands
  3. Weakening of the child's immunity
  4. premature birth of a baby

What to do for protection?

  1. Avoid touching the newborn baby with too many people.
  2. If you touch the baby, wash your hands first.
  3. Use clean clothes and bedding
  4. Get vaccinated on time
